Sustainable urban regeneration is a set of coordinated activities in a selected urban area involving different stakeholder groups with the aim of improving the urban environment and quality of living. This approach addresses several environmental challenges simultaneously as it focuses on the space and the people that use and manage it.
One of the main features of sustainable urban regeneration is collaboration with residents as their wishes and needs are at the heart of the process. Another important goal of regeneration is reduction of environmental impacts. This is achieved through different measures, such as restrictions for motorised traffic, public and green space improvement and use of vacant spaces.
This approach to regeneration can only be successful if the local authority recognises the role citizens play in sustainable urban development.
This project will focus on Municipality of Idrija. It includes a regeneration pilot of a selected area, encouragement of collaboration within the municipality and a training for local officials as well as support with citizen involvement and an action plan for long-term citizen support and communication.
The project is led by prostoRož.
